Lebanese Official Warns of Terror Attacks on UN Troops
Lebanese Defense Minister Elias Murr on Friday warned of a possible terrorist attack on U.N. peacekeeping troops deployed in southern Lebanon.
In an interview with local television network LBC, Murr said he had intelligence suggesting that radical groups from a Palestine refugee camp in southern Lebanon were planning to attack the U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon, or UNIFIL.
Although the intelligence had not been confirmed yet, the minister said it would be necessary to prepare for all possibilities.
About twelve thousand U.N. peacekeeping troops are now deployed in southern Lebanon, monitoring a truce between Israeli forces and the militant group Hezbollah.
Korea plans to send 350 troops to the Middle Eastern country to join UNIFIL.
