Ex-PM Poised to Run for Presidency

Former Prime Minister Han Myeong-sook appears poised to make a run for the presidency, as she has said that she may announce her bid in May.

Han gave a foretaste of her campaign, criticizing politicians who capitalize on regionalism, depend on state subsidies or betray the government in which they had served as Cabinet members.

The Uri Party lawmaker also weighed in on major infrastructure projects proposed by two potential rivals from the Grand National Party. She mentioned former Seoul Mayor Lee Myung-bak's proposed canal linking Seoul and Busan, which she called "irresponsible." She also expressed reservations about former GNP Chairwoman Park Geun-hye's envisioned train ferry between Korea and China, saying that she saw the matter as a regional issue.
