GNP Mired in Fierce Accusations Ahead of Primary

The Grand National Party's two leading presidential hopefuls are making last-minute accusations at each other with the party’s primary just three days away.

Former party chairwoman Park Geun-hye urged the party to seek the withdrawal of her key rival Lee Myung-bak from the party’s primary, stressing that there is sufficient evidence that Lee is the real owner of a controversial parcel of land in affluent southern Seoul.

The prosecution earlier on Tuesday closed its investigation into allegations against the former Seoul mayor on allegedly illegitimate real estate holdings. The allegations have been a key factor Lee's rivals have brought against him in his efforts to run in December's presidential election.

Meanwhile, Lee dismissed Park’s call to pull out of the primary and called on the party leadership to take stern measures for what he called were political slander maneuvers on the part of Park’s campaign.

The four candidates of the party, including Lee and Park, will hold their last joint TV debate Thursday.
