Japan to Seek UN Intervention for NK Missile Launch
Japan’s UN Ambassador Yukio Takasu says he will ask the chairman of UN Security Council to convene an emergency meeting if and when a North Korean rocket launch is confirmed.
Takasu told a news conference on Tuesday that if North Korea indeed launches a missile, Japan will request immediate action on behalf of the UN Security Council due to the direct threat it would pose to the security of his country.
The Japanese envoy stressed that although Pyongyang claims it will launch a satellite and not a missile, either would be in violation of a U.N. resolution because satellites and ballistic missiles utilize similar components.
