Gov't to Spend W5.7 Tln for Low-Income Households

The government will spend five-point-seven trillion won to help stabilize the lives of low-income earners and unemployed workers.

The Ministry of Strategy and Finance on Thursday said the government will increase the number of households who can receive state welfare support by 70-thousand and has earmarked 300 billion won in related support funds.

The number of households who can receive emergency state welfare support will be raised by 30-thousand, with 150 billion won in approved support funds.

A total of two-point-six trillion won will be spent to support low-income people and unemployed workers in the form of cash subsidies, coupons and similar benefits. Included in this total is some 530 billion won for senior citizens and the disabled who cannot work.

The government will spend 270 billion won in support programs for 50-thousand households whose main breadwinners were fired. Also, the number of workers who qualify for loans shoring up living expenses will be increased to 46-thousand.
