Japan will reportedly impose strengthened economic sanctions against North Korea starting Tuesday.

Japan's Sankei Shimbun daily reported Friday that Tokyo will hold a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday to approve a total export ban on Pyongyang.

The move comes as the U.N. Security Council is preparing to adopt a series of sanctions soon in response to North Korea’s May 25th nuclear test.

Tokyo currently bans the export of 24 items to North Korea, including products related to weapons of mass destruction and luxury goods.

The paper added that Tokyo also plans to strengthen restrictions on travel between Japan and North Korea.
