S.Korea Grants Refugee Status to 9 People
The government has granted refugee status to nine foreigners.
The Justice Ministry said on Thursday that it granted the status to nine people who suffered persecution for political or religious reasons in Africa, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
Those granted refugee status receive the same treatment as Korean citizens in terms of employment, education and welfare.
The nation has granted refugee status to 116 people since it signed the U.N. Refugee Convention in December 1992.
