The nation has marked the 61st anniversary of the founding of its military in a ceremony at Armed Forces Headquarters.

The ceremony held Thursday at Gyeryongdae military compound in South Chungcheong Province drew about 32-hundred people, including soldiers, citizens and others who contributed to the founding over a half a century ago.

The ceremony featured military reviews by an honor guard and cadets, decorations for soldiers of merit who fought for the country during the Korean War, and a session to award medals to other meritorious individuals and units.

The ceremony was followed by a martial arts demonstration made up of soldiers and members of the special forces.
