KOSPI Plunges, Won Gains

South Korean shares plunged on massive selling due to falls in the U.S. markets during the Chuseok holidays.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) on Monday dropped 37 points, or about two-point-three percent, to close at 1,606.

The tech-heavy KOSDAQ also fell four points to finish at 497.

In the foreign currency market, the Korean won gained four-point-six won against the U.S. dollar, closing at 1,173 won per dollar.
