Lee Heads to Beijing for S.Korea-China-Japan Summit

President Lee Myung-bak has left for China, to attend a trilateral summit among South Korea, China and Japan.

Lee will meet with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Saturday.

The three leaders will discuss cooperative efforts to resolve the North Korea nuclear issue and the global economic crisis.

Lee is expected to explain to his counterparts the details of his “grand bargain” on North Korean denuclearization, which the South Korean president unveiled while in Washington last month. The deal centers on getting the North to agree to a sweeping denuclearization in return for security guarantees and aid.

Meanwhile, Lee will have separate bilateral summit talks with Wen following the three-way summit.

President Lee and Hatoyama held a bilateral meeting of their own in Seoul on Friday.
