Gov’t to Compensate Families of Cheonan Dead

The government says it will compensate to the fullest the families of Cheonan sailors who have died or who remain missing.

A Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Chung Un-chan decided Friday to bestow levels of compensation similar to those provided to the families of the casualties from the inter-Korean naval skirmish near Yeonpyeong Island in 2002.

The chief of the Coast Guard Lee Gil-beom, meanwhile, said the salvage of the Geumyang-98, which sank after taking part in the search and rescue mission for the missing sailors of the Cheonan, could be delayed from its original date of April 24th depending on conditions in the area.
