US Vows to Seek Ways to Promote Human Rights in N. Korea

The Joe Biden administration has vowed to seek ways to promote human rights in North Korea.

According to Voice of America(VOA) on Thursday, the remarks from a U.S. State Department official came the previous day when it inquired about a recent ban on anti-Pyongyang propaganda leaflet campaigns in South Korea.

The official said the Biden-Harris administration will carefully consider the North's egregious human rights record and how to promote respect for human rights in the closed country in its policy review.

Expressing concern over the North's political prison and labor camps, the official said the U.S. continues to seek to advance human and labor rights in the North and to hold accountable those responsible for abuses or violations.

Regarding the leaflet ban, the official reiterated a position from last December that the U.S. advocates for the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms, and continues to campaign for the free flow of information into the communist state.
