KCNA: Mesozoic Bird Fossil Found in Sinuiju
North Korea said it has found a 130-million-year old bird fossil in Sinuiju, North Pyongyan Province.
The North's official Korean Central News Agency(KCNA) reported on Friday that a paleontology research team at Kim Il-sung University recently discovered the fossil from the Lower Cretaceous period of the Mesozoic Era in the Baekdo area in Sinuiju City.
The KCNA said the bones of the bird's head and toes and part of the wings are well preserved in the fossil.
The research team reportedly concluded that the bird could fly citing the form and structure of the wings.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un reportedly named the fossil "Baekto" bird and ordered its exhibition at a natural museum.
