N. Korea Criticizes S. Korea-US Drill as Latest Session Set to End
A propaganda outlet in Pyongyang has criticized South Korea-U.S. military exercises as the latest joint drill is poised to end on Thursday.
The Uriminzokkiri website argued on Thursday that there is nothing more outrageous than wielding a knife toward a generous partner who gave an opportunity.
The website claimed the combined exercise intentionally aggravates the situation on the peninsula, accusing Seoul and Washington of playing with fire following what it calls the completion of readiness to invade the North.
It also dismissed Seoul’s stance that the drills are defensive and focused on computer-simulated mock training. It called that a “lame excuse” and “shallow trick” to justify adventurous, peace-breaking, and aggressive criminal activities, warning that the “toadism” of the South will only accelerate its self-destruction.
Pyongyang has suspended daily communication through the two Korea’s hotlines since the alliance began preliminary summertime drills on August 10, but unusual moves by its military have not been detected.
