Labor, Mgmt. Agree on 2 Major Points
A major umbrella labor organization and employers' association have agreed to delay for five years a ban on wages for full-time union officials and the introduction of multiple unions.
At the tenth round of tripartite talks among labor, management and the government, the Federation of Korean Trade Unions and the Korea Employers Federation reached an agreement on the two points.
The Labor Ministry welcomed the agreement, saying it will announce its official position after consulting with the ruling Uri Party.
The Korea Tripartite Commission will hold a steering committee meeting Wednesday to fine-tune its stance, before making a final proposal after another tripartite meeting.
Domestic labor law allows multiple unions within a single workplace and bans employers from paying wages to full-time union officials. An appendix rule, however, has suspended the law's implementation for ten years.
