Russia to Provide 50,000 Tons of Fuel Oil to NK

Russia has announced it will deliver 50-thousand tons of heavy fuel oil to North Korea next month.

Russia’s ITAR-Tass News Agency quoted Moscow's Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Losyukov as telling reporters in Beijing that his government will provide the energy aid following the adoption of a six-party agreement on Wednesday.

Under the accord reached in the latest talks between the U.S., the two Koreas, China, Russia and Japan, the North will receive aid equivalent to 950-thousand tons of heavy fuel oil and Washington will move toward taking Pyongyang off a terrorism blacklist.

Losyukov added that he believes the disablement of North Korea’s key nuclear facility in Yongbyon would be completed by December 31st. But he was quick to add, that discussions were still needed on a related timetable and expenses.

The deputy minister also said that the six nations are likely to schedule a six-way foreign ministerial meeting by the end of the year.
