Hill to Meet NK Counterpart Next Week

Top U.S. nuclear negotiator Christopher Hill is scheduled to meet with his North Korean counterpart Kim Kye-kwan in Pyongyang early next week.

A State Department official said Wednesday that Hill will likely travel to the communist state some time between Monday and Wednesday and meet senior North Korean officials, including top nuclear envoy Kim.

During his stay in Pyongyang, Hill will visit the Yongbyon nuclear complex and review progress made in the North’s nuclear disablement. He will also meet with a team of U.S. technical experts who are working on a series of measures to disable the five megawatt reactor, the radiochemical laboratory and the fuel rod fabrication plant in Yongbyon.

Ahead of departing for Japan late Tuesday, Hill told reporters that North Korea will submit a report declaring all of its nuclear programs to China within a few days. He added that chief negotiators of the six-way nuclear talks will study the report when they meet in Beijing next month.
