Gov't to Proclaim Special Prosecutor Bill Next Week
A bill seeking an independent investigation into the Samsung Group’s alleged slush funds is likely to be proclaimed next Tuesday.
President Roh Moo-hyun accepted the bill earlier on Tuesday.
Once the bill is proclaimed after Cabinet deliberation, the Korea Bar Association will recommend three special prosecutors to the president within seven days of getting a request for the recommendation from the president. The president will then appoint one special prosecutor for the investigation and the special prosecutor will have 20 days to form an investigative team.
Given the necessary preparations, full-scale investigation into Samsung’s slush funds is expected to begin from the end of next month.
Prosecutors will have a maximum of one hundred and five days to investigate allegations surrounding the conglomerate’s slush funds, lobbying activities and succession of management rights.
