Seoul Stocks Fall Below 1,800

Korean stock prices tumbled below the psychologically important 1,800-point mark, hit by heavy selling by foreign and domestic institutional investors.

The Korea Composite Stock Price Index plunged 42.51 points, or 2.33 percent, to 1,782.27.

The index opened higher on overnight gains on Wall Street, but lost ground as foreign investors dumped their holdings for a seventh consecutive trading day along with heavy program selling by local financial institutions.

The tech-heavy Kosdaq index also declined 14.12 points to 699.24.
