‘Pres-elect Should Not Seek Small Gov’t in Name Only’
The United New Democratic Party says it will form a task force to discuss the proposed government reform, warning that the presidential transition committee should not pursue a government that only looks smaller.
UNDP spokesman Choi Jae-sung observed that President-elect Lee Myung-bak called for cooperation to realize government reform during his New Year’s news conference but did not give any details. The spokesman said the National Assembly could not pass the reform bill blindly.
He urged caution, for instance, in merging government offices dealing with high-tech such as the Science and Technology Ministry and the Information and Communication Ministry.
Choi also said the incoming administration should not seek a government that is smaller in name only, with fewer offices and beefed up functions.
