Parties Clash Over Reform Bill, Pres. Signals Possible Veto

News2008-01-23

The United New Democratic Party (UNDP) and Grand National Party (GNP) continue to clash over the presidential transition team's government reform plan.

The UNDP said it will hold a three-day meeting to discuss the flaws of a related bill and decide its position.

Meanwhile, the GNP showed strong opposition to President Roh Moo-hyun’s announcement that he could veto the plan even if it wins National Assembly approval.

The GNP said that if the bill does not pass during the extraordinary session, which begins next Monday, it will push the reforms through during the regular session slated to open February fourth.
