Parties All Blast Roh's Veto Remarks
The political circle has blasted President Roh Moo-hyun for threatening to veto the government reorganization bill proposed by the presidential transition team.
The Grand National Party issued a statement Monday saying that the president, who has less than a month left in office, is inciting the United New Democratic Party to oppose the plan for opposition's sake. The main conservative party said that's not what a president should do.
The UNDP said it's understandable for the president to be concerned, but suggested that the National Assembly was the best place to deal with the issue.
The Democratic Party called the president's comments inappropriate while the assembly is discussing the matter. It said the restructuring plan is up to lawmakers, adding that the president doesn't have a say.
The Democratic Labor Party said the president crossed the line by mentioning a possible veto while lawmakers have yet to deliberate on the plan. The minor liberal party said it's regrettable to see Mr. Roh, as party officials described it, being self-righteous until the end.
