'Mad Cow Scare is Groundless'

A group representing Korean Americans has denounced some groups in South Korea for allegedly inciting groundless scare over mad cow disease. But it did not identify them.

In a news conference in Seoul on Friday, the Federation of Korean Associations in the United States denied claims that Americans eat only beef cuts from cows 20 months old or younger.

It claimed that two-and-a-half million ethnic Koreans in the United States eat all beef parts from cows of all ages and had no problems.

The group also called for a wise resolution of the controversy over mad cow disease in South Korea, adding that the issue should not be allowed to adversely affect the ratification of the Korea-U.S. free trade agreement.
