Ex-Pres. Urges Gov't to Respect Joint Declarations
Former President Kim Dae-jung has urged President Lee Myung-bak to respect and fulfill the June 15th, 2000 and October fourth, 2007 inter-Korean summit declarations.
Kim also called on the government to provide North Korea with food and fertilizer aid from a humanitarian perspective.
The Nobel laureate made the remarks Tuesday, saying that inter-Korean relations could make a turn for the worse.
The former president urged the government to immediately resume talks with Pyongyang and launch inter-Korean economic cooperation. He noted that South Korea could become isolated as the North seeks one-on-one talks with the U.S. while Japan is pushing for normalization of its diplomatic ties with the North.
