Former Pres. Criticizes Gov't's NK Policy

Former President Kim Dae-jung on Thursday criticized President Lee Myung-bak for allegedly ruining inter-Korean relations, saying the current administration's North Korea policy will never be successful.

A spokesman for the liberal opposition Democratic Labor Party said the former president made the remark at a meeting with the party's chairman, Kang Ki-kap.

Mr. Kim said the Lee administration's North Korea policy will fail because it follows the footsteps of U.S. President George W. Bush's failed policy.

The former president also said that if Mr. Lee sticks to his current hard-line approach, Seoul will be isolated while North Korea and the United States improve their relationship.

Mr. Kim also said South Korea will benefit from providing aid to the North eventually.
