Gov’t to Select Participants for Internships in US
The government will select hundreds of college students for participation in a program that will allow them to gain internship experience in the U.S in March.
The students will have the chance to start their internships after completing U.S.-based language training courses.
Some 300 students will be chosen for the program's trial run, after which the government will increase the number of participants to one-thousand in the summer and winter sessions.
The Foreign Ministry and the U.S. Embassy in Korea announced the plan in a joint news briefing Monday.
Some 20 percent of the March group will be selected from low-income families.
Julia Stanley, U.S. consul general to Seoul, said it remains uncertain what kind of internship opportunities Korean students will have in the U.S. but said that experience in the international business, financial and government sectors will be beneficial for the participants.
