NK Missile Launches Unlikely to Affect S-N Talks

The government says North Korea’s launch of five short-range missiles on Monday is unlikely to affect plans to hold a series of inter-Korean talks.

Unification Ministry spokesman Chun Hae-sung told reporters Tuesday that the North’s launches are not likely to hinder plans to hold South-North working-level talks on the prevention of floods on rivers shared by the Koreas Wednesday or Red Cross working-level talks on Friday.

Chun cited that the government proposed holding the talks before the North’s missile launches and that the Monday missile tests were not unlike other missile tests the North had done in the past.

Chun then dismissed media reports that said the South Korean government is planning to provide the North with food aid.
