A Thai newspaper says the Georgian-flagged plane halted by Thai authorities on suspicion of carrying North Korean weapons was bound for Ukraine.

The Bangkok Post reported that Sri Lanka and the Middle East were the final destinations of some of the plane's freight.

Crew members told Thai police that the plane was scheduled to make stops in Sri Lanka and the Middle East region to unload some of the cargo before continuing to Ukraine.

The crew—comprised of four Belarussians and one Kazakh—repeated their claim that they believed the cargo was oil drilling equipment, not weapons.

Thai police said that the detained crew could face charges of carrying illegal weapons.
