'Low-carbon, Green Growth Creates Opportunities'

Top presidential secretaries have urged the government, businesses and the public to join efforts to achieve low-carbon, green growth.

Presidential Policy Chief Yoon Jin-sik, senior secretary for national policy Park Jae-wan and secretary for social policy, Jin Young-kon made the call in an article they jointly contributed to the presidential office’s gazette.

The presidential secretaries said that firms can reap new opportunities thanks to the government’s goal to reduce greenhouse gas emission levels, adding that significant investments are expected to promote low-carbon, green growth around the world.

The officials also said that low-carbon, green growth will significantly reduce the cost of importing energy, which stands at about one-hundred trillion won annually. They added that the government’s green growth plan will also create new growth engines, including renewable energy, "green" cars and creating energy from scrapped materials.

The officials urged the public to reduce their consumption of carbon-intensive food products and to turn off lights among other ways to save energy in everyday activities.
