The Associated Press predicted that South Korea will win eight gold medals during the Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympics.

AP forecast Team Korea will bring home four gold medals in archery, two in badminton and one each in judo and shooting.

In archery, South Korea was predicted to win gold at the men’s and women’s team competitions with two other golds in men’s and women’s individual by Kim Woo-jin and Choi Mi-sun, respectively.

AP mentioned Lee Yong-dae and Yoo Yeon-seong to win gold for the badminton men's doubles, and Ko Sung-hyun and Kim Ha-na of the mixed doubles to stand atop of the podium.

In Judo, Gwak Dong-han was picked as the 90-kilogram category favorite.

Jin Jong-oh was expected to win the men’s 50-meter pistol shooting.

AP made a surprising prediction that South Korea will not clinch a single gold medal in its traditionally strong program Taekwondo.

Local favorites, rhythmic gymnast Son Yeon-je and swimmer Park Tae-hwan, missed out on the AP list of the gold medal hopefuls.

Meanwhile, the media outlet predicted North Korea will win three gold, three silver and two bronze medals at the Rio Games.
