South Korean archer Kim Woo-jin has set a world record in the men's individual preliminary round at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

In the first world record of the Rio games, Kim on Friday scored 700 points, firing a total of 72 shots for the ranking round held at the Sambódromo arena.

The previous world record was set at 699 points by another South Korean Im Dong-hyun, four years ago at the 2012 London Olympics.

America's Brady Ellison finished second in the men’s ranking round at 690, ten points less than Kim.

After earning the top speed, Kim has the advantage of competing against the 64th qualifier in the first individual round.
