After Kim Jong-il took over after the death of his father in 1994,
militarist Kim Ki-son rose to power and joined the power elite.
He started his career in the political bureau of the People’s Army
and later served as chief (1985-87) and a political councilor of the
1st Corps (1988-92). In 1992, he was promoted to lieutenant general
and chief cadre of the People’s Armed Forces Ministry. He was promoted
to colonel general five years later and to deputy chief of the political
bureau of the People’s Army in 2003. |
