South Korean Premier League star Son Heung-min, who plays for the Tottenham Hotspur, has been named the best male Asian football player for 2020 by the International Federation of Football for History & Statistics.

Announcing the rankings for each continent on its website Friday, the federation gave Son the title of Best Man Player in the Asian Football Confederation, a title awarded to a player originating from an AFC member nation.

Calling him "simply the best" in 2020, the federation said the Korean super striker wins the title, beating Sardar Azmoun or Iran and Takumi Minamino of Japan.

The IFFHS is a small organization created in 1984 independent of FIFA. It annually ranks players around the world in a number of different categories, although it is not affiliated with any of the sport's governing associations.
