Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun says South Korea will more than double its official development assistance(ODA) by 2030.
Chairing a meeting of the Committee for International Development Cooperation in Seoul on Wednesday, Chung said the government would create a "greater Korea" through an ODA strategy that meets international expectations and the country's higher international profile.
He said Seoul has become the world's 15th largest provider of ODA, receiving praise from the international community for faithfully serving as a bridge between developed and developing nations as a mid-ranked donor.
Chung said South Korea would pursue development cooperation for joint prosperity with recipient nations, strengthening economic cooperation in sectors where Seoul is competitive such as ICT and public administration.
He added that the government would activate private participation in development assistance, including civil society and corporations, and expand development aid beyond the government budget through linkages to private resources.
