President Moon Jae-in has accepted Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl’s resignation.
Chung Man-ho, the senior presidential public communication secretary, announced the president’s decision in a media briefing on Thursday.
The acceptance came about an hour after Yoon tendered his notice in protest of the ruling bloc’s bid to further restrict the prosecution’s investigative rights as part of the government's prosecution reform drive.
A senior presidential official told reporters that the Justice Ministry has received Yoon’s letter of resignation, and added that processing will be under way.
Chung declined to comment on who will be named as his successor, only saying the president's nomination will follow respective procedures as stipulated by law.
