The Incheon-based baseball team SK Wyverns will be rebranded as the SSG Landers.

Discount store chain Emart on Friday unveiled the new name of the team that parent company Shinsegae Group had purchased from SK Group.

The company was speculated to choose the name after Emart was found to have registered for the Internet domain name, ssglanders.com, late last month.

“Landers” was reportedly chosen in a nod to the historic Incheon landings that served as a turning point during the Korean War in 1950. It also captures the image of the western city that houses the country's main international airport.

With the name finalized, Emart said it will now speed up the process to design and produce a logo, emblem and uniforms ahead of the new club’s debut. The regular Korea Baseball Organization season is set to begin on April 3.
