New COVID-19 Cases Top 2,000, First-Shot Vaccination Rate at 70.3%

Daily COVID-19 cases in the country have again topped two thousand, marking the 74th day the tally has been in four digits.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) said Saturday that two-thousand-87 new infections were detected throughout Friday, including 40 from overseas.

The bulk of domestic cases continue to come from the capital region, including 700 in Seoul, 665 in Gyeonggi Province and 145 in Incheon.

Five more deaths have been reported, raising the death toll to two-thousand-394, with the fatality rate at zero-point-84 percent. The number of critically ill patients stands at 329.

Meanwhile, over 36 million people, or 70-point-three percent of the population, have received at least one vaccine shot so far.

Close to 22 million, or 42-point-seven percent, are now fully vaccinated.
