In the latest presidential poll commissioned by KBS, ruling Democratic Party’s(DP) Lee Jae-myung shot ahead of main opposition People Power Party’s(PPP) Yoon Seok-youl by nine percentage points.
Asked who was the best fit for president, 27-point-eight percent of respondents chose the Gyeonggi Province governor while 18-point-eight percent chose the former prosecutor-general.
PPP lawmaker Hong Joon-pyo drew 14-point-eight percent of support while former DP chief Lee Nak-yon had 12 percent.
The governor was ahead of Lee Nak-yon as the best candidate among DP primary contenders at 37 percent to 24-point-two percent. Among PPP hopefuls, Hong outpaced Yoon with 30-point-two percent against 21-point-eight percent.
In a hypothetical race between Gov. Lee and Rep. Hong, Lee was ahead yet again by more than nine percentage points.
As for the current administration, President Moon Jae-in's approval rating recorded close to 44 percent with disapproval at 51-point-five percent.
The poll by Hankook Research was conducted on one-thousand adults nationwide last Thursday to Saturday. It has a 95 percent confidence level with a margin of error of plus or minus three-point-one percentage points.
