South Korea’s Unification Ministry has assessed North Korea's offer to reopen inter-Korean dialogue for constructive discussions as "meaningful."

On Saturday, Kim Yo-jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, said in a statement that Pyongyang is open to discussions of a new inter-Korean summit, declaring a formal end to the Korean War, and the reestablishment of the inter-Korean joint liaison office if mutual respect can be assured.

Assessing the statement as meaningful, South Korea's Unification Ministry on Sunday stressed that the inter-Korean communication lines should be restored first to ensure smooth and stable communication for such discussions.

The ministry then hoped that along with swift restoration of the inter-Korean communication lines, authorities of the two Koreas will resume dialogue and discuss solutions to various pending issues.
