Rival political parties have agreed to form a special parliamentary committee to further discuss necessary media-related reforms, including multiple legislation, in place of the stalled debate over the Democratic Party(DP)-initiated revisions to the Press Arbitration Act.

DP floor leader Yun Ho-jung and People Power Party floor leader Kim Ki-hyeon jointly announced the compromise at the National Assembly on Wednesday that followed a series of meetings in which the two sides failed to see eye-to-eye.

DP chief spokesperson Koh Yong-jin earlier had told reporters that the party held a closed session of its Supreme Council and deemed it would be impossible to put the matter to a vote during a plenary session on Wednesday, and decided to postpone the matter.

The special committee would consist of nine members each from both political parties, and will meet through December 31. A deadline for the implementation of revisions to the Press Arbitration Act was not set.
