With South Korea’s daily COVID-19 cases remaining in the 300s for the second day on Tuesday, health authorities have announced toughened antivirus measures for virus-prone facilities in the greater Seoul area and companies that hire foreign workers.

According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency(KDCA), the metro area accounted for more than 70 percent of cases on Tuesday with 235 out of 345 domestic infections.

Many cases have spread at facilities frequently visited by large amounts of people, with one in five infections contracted at such places. From Wednesday, the Seoul government will closely monitor around 30 facilities, such as parks, department stores and shopping malls, for two weeks.

In addition, companies that hire at least one foreign worker must have both employers and foreign workers get tested by the end of the month, or else the employers will face a fine or other penalties.
