A local employee of the Shinhan Bank’s Yangon branch in Myanmar was shot on Wednesday amid a wave of protests across the country over a military coup.

According to the Seoul-based bank on Monday, the employee was wounded while heading home in a company vehicle at around 5:00 p.m. Wednesday. Currently, the employee is receiving treatment at a hospital. 

Following the incident, the bank decided to tentatively close its Yangon branch and have all of its employees work from home. 

The South Korean Embassy in Myanmar has urged South Koreans residing in the Southeast Asian country to keep their windows closed, stay off their verandas and delete any images they might have on their phones of anti-coup protests. 

The U.S. State Department has ordered the departure of all non-emergency U.S. government personnel and their family members from Myanmar. Germany and Norway have also advised their nationals residing in Myanmar to evacuate. 

Meanwhile, Myanmar’s provisional government, the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw(CRPH), declared on Thursday the launch of a national unity government.

The CRPH, ousted by the military earlier on February 1, also presented a Federal Democracy Charter as an interim constitution which aims to end Myanmar's long history of military dictatorship and guarantee the rights and interests of ethnic minority groups.
