Robots Carry the Olympic Torch

Write: 2017-12-12 15:53:04

For the first time ever in Olympic history, robots have helped transport the flame bound for an opening ceremony.

The Hubo robot belonging to the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, or KAIST, sat in the driver's seat of a self-driving car this week while roboticist Dennis Hong sat next to him and carried the flame on a three-day pass through Daejeon.

A second Hubo took over the flame and drilled a hole into a wall to pass the torch.

Then, a KAIST professor who created the Hubo received the flame and passed it to a middle-school student commanding a mountable robot named FX-2.

The torch heads to Sejong city on Wednesday.
