Singapore Picked as Venue for US-N. Korea Summit

Anchor: Since the United States and North Korea agreed to hold a summit, all attention has been focused on when and where the historic meeting will take place. After weeks of speculation, which included mentions of Panmunjeom as a possibility, Singapore has been selected as the venue.
Our Bae Joo-yon explains the reasons behind why this island country was chosen.
Report: Singapore was the place where the leaders of China and Taiwan held historic talks in 2015 after some six decades.
Observers believe that the U.S. and North Korea picked the Southeast Asian city state for their upcoming summit mainly because the island country has a proven record of hosting high-level diplomatic meetings and it is considered a stage for neutral diplomacy.
North Korea has an embassy in Singapore and many of its trading and shipbuilding companies have made inroads and established a tight network there.
Above all else, flying to Singapore aboard his private plane is sufficiently possible for North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, as it takes between six to seven hours.
In addition, Singapore has the strengths of having good security conditions, a convenient transportation system and high-quality infrastructure.
Initially, the truce village of Panmunjeom and Pyongyang had also been considered as the venue for the summit but in the end, the two countries opted for Singapore which is considered to be less burdensome politically.
CNN assessed that U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and White House Chief of Staff John Kelly had pushed for the summit to be held in Singapore after taking into consideration neutrality and logistics.
