Seoul Welcomes Confirmed US-N. Korea Summit

The South Korean presidential office has welcomed the confirmation that the U.S. and North Korea will hold their first-ever bilateral summit, hoping the historic summit would pave the way for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
Presidential Spokesman Kim Eui-kyeom said in a media briefing on Friday that the presidential office expresses respect for the bold decision by U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to meet with each other, calling it an “unprecedented event in history.”
He said Seoul hopes the Washington-Pyongyang summit will dismantle the only remaining Cold War structure and division in the world and swing the door open for peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula, wishing for the success of the summit.
Kim expressed a similar wish in a text message sent to reporters a day earlier, hoping that the U.S.-North Korea summit will achieve denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and bring permanent peace to the region.
