'Koreas to Coordinate Broad Framework on Implementing Summit Declaration'

Seoul's Unification Ministry expects that during high-level inter-Korean talks on Wednesday, the two sides will coordinate stances under a broad framework to implement the Panmunjeom Declaration.

The two Koreas adopted the declaration during their summit last month held at the truce village of Panmunjeom.

Speaking to reporters Tuesday, a ministry official said that through the Wednesday meeting, the two sides are anticipated to agree on specialized talks or communication channels aimed at the continued development of cross-border relations.

Regarding the agenda for the talks, the official said the issue of separated families has always been a priority for the Seoul government and therefore this will be discussed on Wednesday.

Concerning South Korean citizens detained in North Korea, the official said humanitarian matters will also be up for discussion.

He added the two sides may also discuss holding a joint event to mark the June 15th declaration adopted at the time of the first inter-Korean summit in 2000.
