China Believes N. Korea's Security Woes Must be Handled in Denuclearization Process

China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi says Beijing believes North Korea’s righteous security concerns must be addressed in a timely manner in the process of denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula.
Wang made the statement on Wednesday in a joint news conference after holding talks with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Washington.
Wang said China is committed to the denuclearization of the peninsula and that stance will not change.
He also stressed the need to establish an effective and long-term peace system.
Wang added that China strongly supports the planned U.S.-North Korea summit, saying the gathering is crucial in resolving the Korean Peninsula’s nuclear issue. He expressed hope that the summit will take place as planned and that it will be a success.
Wang and Pompeo had exchanged views earlier in the day on the planned summit set for June 12th and on ways to address the North’s nuclear issue.
