S. Korean Stocks Close Lower Following Summit Cancellation
South Korean stocks closed lower on Friday after the U.S.’ cancellation of its summit with North Korea dampened investor sentiment.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index(KOSPI) fell five-point-21 points, or point-21 percent, to close the day at two-thousand-460-point-80.
The tech-heavy KOSDAQ also weakened, losing four-point-97 points, or point-57 percent, closing at 868-point-35.
On Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the cancellation of his meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un scheduled for June 12th due to the North’s recent “anger and open hostility."
On the foreign exchange, the local currency strengthened one-point-six won against the dollar, ending the session at one-thousand-78.
