North Korean's state-run news agency says that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will visit North Korea soon. 

The Korean Central News Agency(KCNA) issued the report on Wednesday without elaborating on the schedule of the top diplomat's visit and possible agenda for discussions during his trip.

Russian news portal RBC had reported last Wednesday that Lavrov would travel to North Korea on Thursday, quoting a source at the Russian Foreign Ministry. 
  
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told Russia's TASS news agency on the same day that Lavrov's visit to North Korea is in the works. 

She had said concrete dates would be announced separately, declining to comment further. 

Last month, North Korea's top diplomat Ri Yong-ho held rare talks with Lavrov in Moscow and invited him to visit Pyongyang.  

The Russian foreign minister's planned trip draws attention as it comes amid heated diplomacy among major countries over the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the planned summit between the U.S. and the North.
