The presidential office says that working-level talks between the U.S. and North Korea appear to be proceeding smoothly ahead of a potential summit between the two countries’ leaders. 

A senior presidential official presented the assessment to reporters on Wednesday, expressing hope that the ongoing talks between U.S. and North Korean officials will produce good results.

Senior officials of the two nations held working-level talks at the truce village of Panmunjeom on Sunday, and U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and top North Korean official Kim Yong-chol will reportedly meet in New York later this week ahead of the Singapore summit.

The Cheong Wa Dae official said that the possibility of holding a trilateral summit between the two Koreas and the U.S. to declare a formal end to the Korean War is linked to the outcome of the U.S.-North Korea summit.
